Horace Clinton “Bobby” Bowling
Born on February 28, 1950, in Courtland, Alabama, Bobby is the third and final son, and the last sibling born in Alabama. Named after his grandfather, he is one of many “Horaces” on the Scruggs family tree. His nickname “Bobby” remains a mystery, possibly to differentiate him from all the other Horaces! Bobby has a playful, warm, and welcoming demeanor. He loved playing baseball and basketball and even tried roller skating.
During the Vietnam War era, Bobby joined the Navy and trained as a jet engine mechanic. His deployment to Key West, Florida, was a period of personal growth and learning. After his military service, he moved to Texas and worked for Rohr Industries. Once he returned to Cleveland, he worked in several industries and retired early due to an industrial accident. His reflections on life, from his early days in Alabama to his experiences in the Navy and beyond, paint a picture of a man who has navigated life’s challenges with humor, dedication, and resilience. This was evident in his care for his mother while she was home.
Bobby and his wife Bettina enjoy cooking, playing cards, and spending time with family. Bobby had two children: Jamal and Gabriel, and two grandchildren.
